Political Philosophy
National and Social Conservatism
PiS emphasizes a strong sense of Polish national identity, cultural heritage, and sovereignty. It advocates for the protection of Polish values, traditions, and history. The party supports maintaining Poland's independence in the face of external pressures, particularly from the European Union or globalist forces. The party advocates for a more intergovernmental, rather than federal, European Union, where Poland’s national interests are prioritized.
Christian Democracy
Rooted in Catholic social teaching, PiS emphasizes the role of faith, family, and community in shaping society. This includes a focus on ethics and morality in both public and private life, with policies designed to promote religious education and social cohesion based on Christian values.
Populism
PiS has positioned itself as a defender of ordinary people against the elites. It often criticizes the political establishment, especially those associated with the former communist regime and the liberal-left political establishment. The party appeals to the working and rural classes, arguing that they have been marginalized by economic globalization and the elites.
Patriotism and Anti-Globalism
PiS advocates for policies that prioritize the interests of the Polish nation over global or supranational entities. This includes resistance to liberal immigration policies, as well as opposition to what they perceive as the negative effects of global capitalism and cultural homogenization.
Economic Nationalism
PiS supports a more protectionist economic policy, favoring state intervention in the economy and emphasizing the protection of domestic industries. This is in contrast to liberal market economics, with PiS promoting policies that are more favorable to Polish businesses and workers. PiS has championed social welfare policies, healthcare reforms, and pension reforms aimed at improving the welfare of ordinary Poles. These policies are meant to address income inequality and social disparities, while also reinforcing traditional family structures.
