The Unitary Republic of Doulant, commonly known as Doulant, is a mock-government that exists on Discord. It has 7 counties, two of which are integrated colonies. Modern Doulant was formally established on October 12, 2021, and declared independence from the Republic of Discord (RoD) on August 13, 2022. It is recognized as the largest post-RoD successor mock-government and holds significant influence within the post-RoD community, having transitioned from an authoritarian regime to a democracy.

Doulant was founded on the 21st of January, 2018, as "District 1" in the Republic of Discord. Later known as the Republic of Doulant, it functioned as a constituent state within the broader Republic of Discord until its independence.

While Doulant was once characterized by authoritarian governance, it has since embraced democratic constitutional principles. The Doulantese constitution guarantees the inviolability of human dignity, with the state responsible for its protection. Citizens are entitled to personal freedom and the right to develop their personalities, though these freedoms may be subject to lawful restrictions.

The constitution also ensures equality before the law and prohibits discrimination based on factors such as sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, or political views. The Doulantese people enjoy freedoms of speech, expression, thought, conscience, and religion, provided these rights do not infringe upon the law or others’ rights. Special protections are afforded to family and marriage. Other safeguarded rights include freedom of association, peaceful assembly, privacy in communication, freedom to choose one’s profession, and the inviolability of the home, though these too may be limited by law in certain circumstances.

Doulant is also notable for its emphasis on journalism, a value promoted by its founder, who is a journalist in real life. Doulant actively encourages the development of a free press within its structure. A key example of this was the enactment of the Freedom of Information Act on October 12, 2024, which aimed to increase transparency and uphold the rights of the Doulantese people to access government information.

Etymology

The origin of the name "Doulant" remains uncertain, but it is widely speculated to have been coined by English speakers during the state's formative period. The name may have been inspired by phonetic patterns or regional influences associated with its early governance within the Republic of Discord. The precise etymological roots are a subject of ongoing interest among its citizens and historians.

History of Doulant

Ancient Doulant

Doulant was noted for its higher levels of activity and population compared to Balion, though it was less active than Avalon. It was home to several prominent figures from the Republic of Discord, including Vice President Cortina, former President and Associate Justice Jack Macklin, former Acting Treasurer and Administrator Big Blake, Assembly Members JustAJuice and Windu, former RBI Director Smile Not, Fithy Frank, Society, Nightshark, Nightishaman, and various other influential personalities.

The Doulant Concordance

A key historical document from the region is The Doulant Concordance, a treaty signed during the leadership of Mcl5 in the Fifth Republic of Discord. The treaty officially concluded the Republic-Trinity War, though it held primarily honorary significance and did not alter the political or territorial status quo between the two nations. The war itself had effectively ended with the collapse of the Third Republic.

The Trinity Crisis, alternatively known as the National Guard Crisis or the Republic-Trinity War, was a pivotal conflict between the Third Republic of Discord and the Trinity Empire, though the exact causes of the war remain obscure. The conflict resulted in the militarization of early Fourth Republic society and the emergence of true democratic governance within the Republic of Discord. The war also marked the end of the Third Republic, precipitated by the betrayal of Cosmical, a key figure in the collapse.

Doulantese-Amullian Union

Amullia, another state, was also involved as a belligerent during the Trinity Crisis. However, following the end of the Third Republic, a functional peace agreement was established between Doulant and Amullia, restoring stability to the region. It is also documented that at some point, the Houses of Doulant and Amullia merged, though little else is known about this union.

Early governance

Much of ancient Doulant's history remains unkown, and its significance is pieced together from surviving archives and records. However, the political leadership of Doulant, particularly during the transitional periods, offers further insight into its history. According to non-confirmed sources, it is believed that Big Blake was actually the first governor of Doulant. While it remains unclear whether he personally named the state, Doulantese historians speculate that he likely played a role in its naming, at least partially.

One of the earliest confirmed governors was L0gan, who served until October 24, 2020. His tenure ended abruptly following the October 24th Crisis, which forced him to resign from his position. The October 24th Crisis was a secessionist movement that emerged in response to several controversial actions taken by Doulant’s Governor, L0gan. These acts were viewed as divisive by much of the population, ultimately triggering unrest. The crisis was ignited when Logan banned Senator Smile Not, who had been involved in a riot, leading to widespread discontent. In the wake of his expulsion, Smile Not, along with other dissatisfied citizens, formed a secessionist republic.

The situation quickly escalated but was resolved after approximately three hours of negotiations between Smile Not and the then-President of the Republic of Discord, Visher. These negotiations culminated in a presidential pardon and amnesty for all conspirators involved in the secessionist movement, bringing a temporary peace to the region. After L0gan's departure, a temporary governing body known as the Revolutionary Council assumed control of Doulant from October 24, 2020, until late November 2020. However, the council was eventually phased out in favor of a more stable government.

On July 5, 2021, discussions erupted in the Republic of Discord over the proposed deletion of Doulant. The proposal, outlined in the "3 States Amendment," aimed to reduce the number of states in the Republic, raising concerns and frustration among Doulant's residents and supporters. Doulant, being the second most populous state at the time, was a focal point for opposition to the amendment.

Key figures, including Doulant’s advocates and other prominent community members, like Dinobop, voiced strong resistance to the amendment. Many argued that any decision regarding Doulant’s status should be determined by its governor and residents, not through a Republic-wide vote. Comparisons were drawn to hypothetical scenarios in which larger states, such as Texas, would face external decisions about their independence, highlighting the perceived unfairness of the proposed amendment.

The tension culminated in a polarized debate, with individuals suggesting alternative targets for dissolution, such as Avalon or Balion, as a way to preserve Doulant. Doulant’s defenders emphasized the state’s integral role in the Republic and refused to accept any move toward its deletion.

Society-Regime

In late November 2020, Society was appointed as Governor of Doulant. Society's administration lasted until September 5, 2021, when he left the server, thus marking the end of his leadership. Society was a prominent legislator and state politician in the Republic of Discord who emerged during the Tenth Discordian Era, eventually playing a pivotal role in the formation of the Progressive Parties of the Fifteenth Republic. His political career began in the Republic of Discord as a Senator representing the state of Doulant, aligned with the newly established, progressive Cool Party. Serving in a Senate controlled by Technocrats, Society gained valuable political experience and formed connections with future progressive leaders.

During his time as a legislator, Society witnessed significant political turmoil, including the October First Crisis and the Siege of the House, both of which were marked by political violence and instability within the Fifteenth Republic. These events unfolded during the resignation of President Fennec, an episode that gave rise to the Progressive Wave; a political shift that Society was closely involved in. After serving as both Senator and House Representative under the Fennec administration, Society rose in prominence.

Society later ran for office as the vice-presidential candidate alongside Dunraven, Fennec's handpicked successor, in the general elections under the newly formed Progressive Party. This party was a coalition Society helped create, drawing support from former members of both the Cool and Technocratic parties. His influence within the Fifteenth Republic often put him at odds with members of the Democratic Front and Centrist Alliance, and he played a leading role in the Anti-House Movement during the Siege of the House.

There are numerous accounts, both confirmed and speculative, that suggest Society ruled over Doulant as a dictator until his departure. While these claims remain unproven, they are widely accepted by Doulantese historians, who view Society's leadership as authoritative during this period.

Early modern Doulant

Following the departure of Society, Doulant experienced a significant power vacuum, resulting in the absence of an effective government. On October 12, 2021, a newcomer to the Republic of Discord, known as esemih0108 and later referred to as Aurelius Marcellus (formerly Joseph V. Stalin), won the gubernatorial elections for Doulant representing his own party, the Communist Party Discordias (CPD).

At just 13 years old and without any prior political experience, Marcellus later admitted that he was unaware of the canvassing laws, which led him to win the election through fraudulent means. Despite his confession, the investigation conducted by the administrator Copley did not result in any punitive action, and the election was ultimately accepted as legitimate. This decision was met with minor protests from some anti-communist factions, but they did not significantly impact Marcellus's governance.

Early changes in Doulant

As a result, Marcellus assumed control over Doulant, further complicating the already unstable political climate of the region. On the same day that Aurelius Marcellus took office as governor, he initiated a vote to rename Doulant’s capital from the City of Slough to the City of Stalingrad. This proposal was accepted by the populace, garnering 11 votes in favor and 5 against. Additionally, Marcellus founded the Doulantese State Security (D-SS), a national police and militia force modeled after the KGB (Soviet Intelligence Agency, known as the Committee for State Security). Originally established as the KGB on October 12, 2021, the D-SS was intended to serve as a state security apparatus. Prior to Marcellus's governorship, Doulant had already maintained a militia known as The Doulantese Militia (TDM), which laid the groundwork for what the D-SS would become. However, while the TDM primarily focused on military objectives, the D-SS shifted its focus toward espionage and national policing. Throughout its existence, the D-SS was involved in several significant incidents, including the Smile Not Coup attempt and the establishment of the Doulantese Labour Camp, often referred to as a Gulag. The D-SS operated as a controversial entity within Doulant, facing scrutiny for its methods and activities.

The Doulantese Labour Camp

Ultimately, the D-SS was officially abolished by the RIA Establishment Act on September 26, 2022, marking the end of its operations. Also founded and managed by the Doulantese State Security (D-SS) was the Doulantese Labour Camp, more commonly known as the Gulag. This facility served as a prison for political enemies and dissidents. Following its establishment, the Gulag was utilized frequently, becoming a central institution not just for Doulant but for the entire Republic of Discord. Reports surfaced detailing instances of torture within the Gulag, with discussions occurring in channels such as #✕│torture-room, #✕│asylum, and #✕│room-101. The use of the Gulag persisted until a Supreme Court judicial review determined that only the federal prison should be utilized for detentions. However, the Gulag became so widely used that it eventually replaced the federal prison until it was forcibly closed in July 2022 by the RoD administration, primarily under the direction of Resprune.

Arrest logs from the Gulag, preserved from November to December 2021, provide insight into the nature of detentions during this tumultuous period. For instance, a user named Brown#6438 was recorded as being arrested for federal crimes on November 14, 2021. Subsequently, on November 21, two individuals, Ondro and very stable genius, were arrested for pedophilia. On the same day, another user known as !! Beanman was detained for sharing NSFW content, while Dyno was arrested for censoring the Vice President. TheGreatHatsby was arrested on November 21 for multiple infractions, including spamming in the capital. On November 22, Ozzy_Osman was apprehended for bribery and treason, and Mr. Perry was detained for gambling outside of casinos, resulting in a 24-hour stay in the Gulag. Mr. President was held in contempt and sentenced to 12 hours in the Gulag for his actions on the same day. The following days saw a pattern of arrests for offenses such as mass pinging and pedophilia. Ondro was arrested again on November 25 for mass pinging, while the very stable genius faced charges of pedophilia on the same day. The records continued with Atilla, who was arrested on December 6 for mass pinging and being described as mentally unstable, and We love rom, who faced two charges on the same day for sexually offending someone and harassment. Lastly, !Conkist was arrested on December 9 for illegally gambling in a designated bot commands channel.

These logs illustrate the controversial and oppressive nature of the Gulag, where individuals were detained for a range of offenses, often with questionable legitimacy. The Doulantese government possesses historical records detailing the torture methods employed in the Gulag; however, these records remain classified. It has been disclosed that the forms of torture utilized were primarily psychological in nature. The Doulantese State Security had its own department dedicated to psychological warfare and research. This department was responsible for developing and implementing various techniques aimed at breaking down prisoners' will and instilling fear.

First modern constitution

Still on October 12, 2021, Aurelius was prompted by an unidentified Doulantese individual to draft a new constitution for Doulant. Although the identity of this adviser remains uncertain, it is widely believed that it was Laythe who encouraged Marcellus in this endeavor. However, Marcellus's initial attempt at writing the constitution proved to be a disaster. Lacking prior experience in constitutional drafting, he aimed to incorporate his party, the Communist Party Discordias, into the document. In doing so, he inadvertently defined the CPD as a “ruling party”, which sparked significant controversy among the populace. This misstep drew widespread criticism, leading to public outcry regarding the implications of designating a single party as the governing authority. In response to the backlash, Marcellus issued an apology and quickly moved to amend the constitution. This revised version was presented to the public for approval on the same day and was ultimately adopted, receiving 10 votes in favor and 7 against.

Smile Not coup d'état attempt

On October 24, 2021, Smile Not attempted to carry out a coup d'état with the aim of overthrowing the Doulantese government. However, this plan ultimately failed, leading Aurelius to issue an order for the arrest of Smile Not. The Doulantese State Security executed the arrest, swiftly detaining Smile Not and transporting him to the Doulantese Labour Camp. While incarcerated in the Gulag, Smile Not faced a grim fate, which was indicative of the oppressive climate that characterized Doulant's political landscape during this period. Following his time in the Gulag, he was later exiled due to the charges stemming from his attempted coup.

General Buttnaked-Regime

Although the exact timeline is now obscured by history, General Buttnaked was appointed Prime Minister of Doulant, a position that held authority above the governor, even though elections were conducted by the governor. General Buttnaked frequently clashed with Aurelius, as he was a staunch opponent of communism and disapproved of many of Aurelius's proposed reforms. Despite this initial prominence, General Buttnaked's tenure was short-lived; he became inactive just a week after his appointment, and the reasons for his sudden disappearance from the political scene remain unknown.

Around the 27th of October, another individual named Stalin, a friend of Aurelius, was appointed as Prime Minister. However, this new appointment was brief, lasting only a day. Shortly after, a government council dissolved the administration on the orders of the president. Historical records suggest that these orders may have come from President Lego Skeleton, though it is unclear whether he was indeed the one who initiated this dissolution. There is widespread speculation that John Hersey played a significant role in orchestrating the government’s dissolution, but this claim cannot be accurately verified in contemporary accounts.

Late pre-First Republic happenings

The period from November to December marked an era of relative stability for Doulant, with few notable incidents disrupting its governance. One significant event during this time involved the Leonite KGB, which attempted to influence the Republic of Discord’s elections. This covert operation was uncovered by the Doulantese State Security. Following the exposure of the Leonite KGB's interference, Governor Aurelius Marcellus faced personal consequences when he was banned from Leons USSR, despite his prior affiliations with them. However, rather than wavering, Aurelius publicly declared his loyalty to the Republic of Discord. His steadfast allegiance did not go unnoticed, and he was later rewarded for his loyalty.

As the year drew to a close, Aurelius was honored during the RoD New Year’s Awards, where he was declared the Most Loyal Rodian by the RoD ownership. This accolade further solidified his position and reputation within the Republic, marking a high point in his political career.

First Doulantese Republic

On January 22, 2022, Aurelius Marcellus formally established the First Doulantese Republic, marking a new chapter in Doulant's history. Before this formalization, Doulant was officially known as “The Most Serene and Democratic Republic of Doulant.” However, with the founding of the First Republic, the name was simplified to “The Republic of Doulant.” This transformation was motivated by Aurelius's observations of neighboring states like Avalon and Balion, which had well-established state servers. In contrast, Doulant’s server was largely inactive, with only four members, no server icon, no roles, and the default channels left untouched from when the server was first created.

To remedy this, Aurelius took matters into his own hands and created a new server for Doulant. As a senior admin with close ties to the ownership of the Republic of Discord, Aurelius faced no opposition to his initiative. With the absence of a Prime Minister in the current political structure, he decided to merge the positions of Governor and Prime Minister, thereby creating the new office of President of Doulant. Aurelius appointed himself as the first President, cementing his authority over the state.

In tandem with this reorganization, Aurelius appointed Blyatman, a fellow communist and experienced politician, as the first Chancellor of Doulant. However the title of Chancellor had officially been General Secretary of Doulant back then, in line with the evolving structure of the newly-formed republic.

PAX-Movement

In mid to late January 2022, the PAX-Movement gained prominence within the Republic of Discord, though its origins date back to October 23, 2021. Much of the early history surrounding this movement has been lost over time. It is important to note that this movement was unrelated to the Pax Discordia, a term referring to the golden era of peace and stability within the mock government community. The Pax Discordia was marked by the absence of major destructive conflicts, high political participation, and the rapid expansion of mock governments, including the RoD, which flourished during this time. In contrast, the PAX-Movement came from an entirely different environment, originating in a server known as “PAX Theocracy V2” or a similar name, which was not part of the mock government genre.

The PAX-Movement's political platform, known as the Revolutionary Pax Front (RPF), was led by a figure titled the Powercrat-in-Chief. It held an extreme libertarian stance and promoted an ideology known as Paxism. The RPF was devoted to the protection and freedom of all Paxlets (its followers). It advocated for a populist and hypernationalistic platform that demanded exclusivity for Paxians, denying the acceptance of immigrants who did not share Paxian origins or beliefs. The movement combined this with a militant form of Christianity, requiring the universal recognition of Jesus Christ. Violence towards criminals was a core tenet, with “hyperviolence” being encouraged as a means of enforcement.

Additionally, the RPF normalized corruption, theft, and nepotism within its ranks, promoting these practices as acceptable. It also placed significant importance on effortposting, rewarding those who contributed to the movement with honorary roles. Paxism demanded that the truth be centered around Pax, seen as the ultimate origin of truth, and required daily check-ins with local Paxian Officers of Truth to maintain control. This ideology was extreme and authoritarian in practice, despite its supposed libertarian veneer.

The movement attempted to infiltrate and take control of the RoD through legal means, such as running in elections, but faced difficulties due to limited internal support. For over a month, PAX supporters spammed RoD channels with the phrase “PAX PAX PAX,” trying to disrupt and overwhelm political discussions. In response, the Republic Coalition, a democratic-centrist party that had been losing influence to smaller factions, united various parties within the RoD to form a massive super-coalition. This unprecedented alliance of 7 to 8 different parties defeated the PAX supporters in elections, leading to the movement's decline. A second wave of PAX members attempted to regroup but failed to regain momentum, and the PAX-Movement disappeared within 2 to 3 months after its initial rise to prominence.

PAX-Purges

On February 23, 2022, Governor Aurelius Marcellus, acting as President of Doulant, declared the PAX party a terrorist organization. This declaration marked the beginning of what came to be known as the Great Purge. During the purge, individuals associated with the PAX-Movement were expelled from the RoD community, particularly within Doulant. The purge extended beyond just PAX supporters and included others deemed undesirable by the regime. The purge, which had swept through the Doulant server, included a list of individuals purged by February 24, 2022. Among those affected were JamesDaBushwacker, carlton, Petsanek, Dogsmatia, patriarch, Constending, and several others, many of whom either had their accounts banned or were removed for various reasons. This event marked a significant turning point in Doulant's and RoD’s history, underscoring the authoritarian measures taken by Aurelius to maintain control in an era of political instability.

Early Doulantese autonomy

Until April little is recorded in Doulantese history. However, one notable event was the so-called “Stalingrad Convention.” While the details of its agenda and purpose have been lost to time, it is generally assumed that the convention focused on fostering international cooperation. This event took place during a pivotal period when Doulant, under the First Republic, had gained semi-autonomous status within the Republic of Discord. During this time, Doulant developed a fully functioning legislative and executive branch, alongside a semi-functional judiciary. However, the legislative body made no significant laws, and the constitution was eventually abolished. This resulted in the state becoming a de facto police junta, controlled by the Doulantese State Security. The government, in its quasi-autonomous structure, allowed the D-SS to exert considerable influence over the state’s governance.

Despite the lack of formal lawmaking, Doulant’s legislative structure consisted of two chambers: the Commission (parliament) and the House of Representatives. The precise roles and responsibilities of these two chambers, however, have been lost over time. Despite the absence of formal laws during the First Doulantese Republic, the state maintained a notably low crime rate compared to the Republic of Discord and enjoyed a period of general social stability. This stability was largely due to the overwhelming support for the Marcellus regime, which commanded an almost absolute majority among the population.

In an effort to further solidify Doulant’s autonomy, the government established its own regional economy and introduced a new currency, the Doulantese Dollar. This move marked a significant step toward economic independence, allowing Doulant to operate with a degree of self-sufficiency despite remaining under the broader umbrella of the Republic of Discord.

End of the First Republic

The era of the First Republic came to an end on either March 31 or April 1, following a failed attempt to gain independence. However, it is known that true independence was never the objective. The exact reasons behind the plot remain unclear, though it is known to have been orchestrated by the ownership of the Republic of Discord, specifically involving Aurelius Marcellus and Swordpepi, also known as Vito. Aurelius had been tasked with faking an independence declaration for Doulant, with the plan to reintegrate the state after approximately one month, accompanied by a staged peace treaty. However, the plan unraveled when Aurelius lost access to his account under mysterious circumstances. While the precise cause remains unknown, historians agree that he likely fell victim to mass reporting by an unidentified party. This unexpected turn of events caused the plot to collapse, and with Aurelius unable to continue leading, the First Doulantese Republic formally came to an end.

Second Doulantese Republic

On April 1, 2022, the Second Doulantese Republic was formally established. Unlike the First Republic, where Aurelius Marcellus held direct ownership of the state, the Second Republic was officially under the ownership of the Republic of Discord ownership. Despite not being an official owner, Aurelius maintained significant influence and acted as a de facto owner, accepting this new structure of governance. With this shift, Aurelius and the citizens of Doulant embarked on a project to rebuild the server, re-establishing its foundations.

The “Doulantese Golden Age”

For the next few months, Doulant remained relatively quiet, with no major events of note. However, around June 2022, the state experienced a dramatic transformation that marked the beginning of its “Golden Age.” Activity within the server surged to unprecedented levels, with Doulant, despite having just over 100 members, seeing thousands of messages exchanged daily. This remarkable growth in engagement even surpassed the Republic of Discord, the state’s sovereign, and underscored Doulant’s importance as a hub of activity within the larger Republic of Discord community during this period.

Full Doulantese autonomy

During this period, Doulant evolved into a state that was technically independent, with a fully autonomous government. It conducted its own elections, issued its own currency, and sustained itself with higher levels of activity than the much larger Republic of Discord, which was at least ten times its size. This newfound autonomy led to the hosting of the Second Stalingrad Convention, where Doulant entered into treaties of mutual protection and cooperation with several smaller nations. Doulant signed these treaties unilaterally, without consulting the federal government of the Republic of Discord, reflecting its growing sense of autonomy and self-sufficiency.

Political landscape

Politically, the Second Republic marked a shift towards more authoritarian rule. The nation saw an increase in political persecution, police oversight, and even executions, leading to what many regarded as its peak of tyrannical governance. Despite these developments, the server’s prominence and activity only grew, drawing attention from both within and beyond the Republic of Discord. With this surge in activity, Aurelius took steps to formalize Doulant’s legal framework, attempting to draft the state’s first criminal code. However, each attempt resulted in incomplete laws, and no criminal code was officially adopted.

To manage the increasing demands of governance, Doulant created the Council of Ministers, led by a chief of staff, the Prime Minister of Doulant. Although the House of Representatives briefly reappeared during this time, it never gained a foothold, and the government became concentrated in the hands of three key figures: the President, the General Secretary (the Chancellor), and the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister role, held by only three individuals throughout history, became a crucial part of the Second Republic’s governance. The most notable Prime Minister during this era was Crepix. The legislative body, known as the Commission of Doulant, now fully controlled lawmaking as the sole legislative chamber, further centralizing power under the executive leadership.

Early Doulantese colonialism

During this period, Doulant also expanded its influence by establishing its first colony, known as Conkist Ireland. This colony was founded through the efforts of a Doulantese patriot named Conkist, who offered his Ireland server to be a part of Doulant as a colonial territory. Despite this symbolic expansion, the colony was short-lived. Conkist eventually deleted the Ireland server, resulting in the colony’s dissolution. Notably, the colony’s existence was brief, and it was outlived by the Second Doulantese Republic itself.

The July-Crisis

On July 12, 2022, the Second Republic of Doulant fell as part of the July Crisis. In the days leading up to its collapse, tensions began when the Republic of Discord ownership decided to intervene in Doulant’s affairs. Initially, the intervention was subtle, with some RoD owners joining Doulant and acquiring administrative permissions. However, Aurelius Marcellus, who was both the President of Doulant and a co-owner of RoD, publicly protested against the intervention when the RoD owners elevated themselves administratively, creating higher roles and reducing Aurelius and his admins’ authority. This move made the RoD owners untouchable within Doulant, undermining the autonomy that had defined the Second Republic.

The situation escalated on the second day of the intervention when RoD owners removed Doulant’s border, citing that it violated RoD’s open border policy. This was done despite the protests from both Aurelius and the Doulantese government. The removal of the border marked a major shift in control, and RoD ownership continued to push for further changes. This time, however, the entire Doulantese population united in opposition, sparking massive public protests. The unrest caused social instability, leading to the failure of Doulant’s police forces and eventually destabilizing the government.

The final blow came when one of Doulant’s admins betrayed the people, granting administrative permissions to Daniel, the leader of the 4th Brigade, who subsequently nuked the server, effectively wiping it out. This act marked the end of the Second Doulantese Republic and the collapse of Doulant’s golden age. At its height, Doulant had reached approximately 160 members, far surpassing any other RoD state, none of which managed to exceed 70 members. The crisis marked the end of Doulant’s era as a state superpower within the Republic of Discord.

Aurelius’ exile

Despite not being responsible for the nuke that destroyed Doulant, Aurelius Marcellus was blamed for the incident. As a result, he was demoted from his administrative positions within the Republic of Discord and eventually banned, a move later proven as unlawful. The ban was executed by then co-owner Yeetus von Klue and publicly celebrated by co-owner Resprune. However, according to witnesses, no one joined the so-called “celebrations” over Aurelius’ removal, indicating that his departure did not have the desired effect of jubilation among the late RoD community.

Third Doulantese Republic

The third Doulantese Republic, also less commonly known as the “Meme-Doulant” or “Resprunian-Doulant,” was established by Resprune as a successor to the Second Doulantese Republic. Resprune himself admitted that he intentionally turned Doulant into a “meme state” to contrast with other states in the Republic of Discord (RoD): Avalon, a serious state; Balion, a dead state; and Doulant, the meme state.

The Resprune reforms

As the new owner of Doulant, Resprune restructured the government, abolishing the positions of president, general secretary, and prime minister, and replaced them with the singular office of the Governor of Doulant. Only three ministries remained after the restructuring, including the oddly titled “Minister of Jsutice” and “Minister of Lawg,” with the exact difference between these two roles being unclear to historians. The legislative body, previously known as the commission of Doulant, was renamed to “Lemme Grab My AirPods” (LGMAP) by Resprune. He proceeded to hold elections for the new office of governor, which were won by Crepix, a former prime minister and secret sympathizer of Aurelius Marcellus.

Aurelius’ government-in-exile

Meanwhile, Aurelius, outraged by what he saw as the desecration and mockery of Doulant, led a government-in-exile alongside other hardliners. This group included ImItsyBee210, Crepix (in secret), LysanderFelix, Blyatman, Lueke, Dr.Schwammkopf69 and Dr. Dr. Sir. Markus, among others. During this period, Aurelius designed what is now the official flag and coat of arms of Doulant. Originally, the flag symbolized the revolutionary government-in-exile.

Lifting of Aurelius’ exile

Resprune’s unpopular reforms led to growing unrest, and within approximately a week, the Doulantese government defied the Republic of Discord’s federal authority by holding a referendum to lift Aurelius’ exile. The referendum passed with an overwhelming majority. Aurelius quickly returned, igniting protests within the RoD calling for his ban to be lifted. It was soon revealed that his initial ban had been a miscarriage of justice, and he was reinstated as a member of the RoD. Aurelius then won the subsequent elections and returned to power as the Governor of the newly reformed “Consulate of Doulant.”

Callurian nuke

On July 24th, before the Third Republic of Doulant could initiate any meaningful rebuilding, it was suddenly nuked by two admin-helpers hired by Resprune: Orion and Hypnotika. Their exact motive for this action remains unclear. Initially, it was not even known that they were responsible until both admitted to the deed. Orion openly took credit for the destruction in an announcement within the Republic of Calluris, stating, “The Ownership of Calluris is happy and glad to see Doulant nuked plus we know who did it. L + Ratio.” He later confirmed his involvement, explaining that “The Calluris babysitters club thought it would be funny.” Hypnotika, however, took a different approach, turning himself in to Aurelius and asking for forgiveness. Aurelius, displaying clemency, forgave him and the Callurians, especially after Orion attempted to shift the blame onto NatureGamer, the founder and owner of Calluris.

Fourth Doulantese Republic

In response to the destruction, Aurelius founded the Fourth Doulantese Republic, which he named the “Unitary Republic of Doulant,” drawing inspiration from an old historical map that suggested a similar republic had existed in RoD alongside the state of Romaria. This new republic was once again under Aurelius’ ownership, despite significant protest and pressure from the Republic of Discord government.

Rebuilding efforts

The Fourth Doulantese Republic reversed many of Resprune’s reforms, restoring the stable presidential democratic republic, although the office of Prime Minister was permanently abolished. During this period, Aurelius embraced a more patriotic stance, reducing the levels of oppression that had previously characterized his rule. With this renewed sense of resolve for the Doulantese nation, he established the first semi-democratic republic in Doulant’s history, allowing for mostly free and fair multi-party elections and significantly less political persecution. This era marked a time of relative peace and stability as the nation rebuilt itself, though it never quite returned to its former golden age.

The independence movement

While Doulant stabilized internally, tensions continued to mount between Aurelius and the Republic of Discord ownership. Although Aurelius, now also serving as the President of RoD, tried to maintain peace by giving administrative roles to a few RoD owners, including Resprune, his efforts at reconciliation were met with resistance. At the same time, a growing independence movement, led by ImItsyBee210, gained momentum. Aurelius initially remained neutral, stating that democracy would decide Doulant’s fate, but this neutrality was tested as conflicts between him and RoD ownership, especially with Resprune, escalated.

The turning point came when Resprune betrayed Aurelius’ trust, leaking private messages between them that implicated ImItsyBee210 in advocating for Doulant’s independence. These messages were used as evidence to charge him with treason. Outraged by the breach of trust, Aurelius abandoned his neutrality, openly supporting Doulant’s independence. He even defended ImItsyBee210 in the ensuing trial, successfully getting the charges dropped.

Resprune’s nuke

Despite these victories, on August 13, 2022, the Fourth Doulantese Republic was brought down by sabotage. In a coordinated effort, Resprune, backed by the other RoD owners, nuked the server, replacing it with one under their control to prevent any chance of independence. Their plan, however, backfired. Aurelius, ImItsyBee210, and other key figures rejected the new server and instead signed a Declaration of Independence. Aurelius immediately established a new Doulant, marking the birth of the Fifth Doulantese Republic and the beginning of the Doulantese War for Independence.

Fifth Doulantese Republic

On August 13 at 18:06 local time, President Aurelius Marcellus delivered a significant announcement shortly before Doulant’s official declaration of independence. He stated that the Republic of Discord had declined to recognize them as the legitimate representatives of Doulant, which led him to conclude that they were now a sovereign state. Aurelius expressed uncertainty about the implications of this new status, acknowledging that while they were free to act independently, the lack of recognition from the Republic of Discord left him feeling unsure about their future.

The Declaration of Independence

In the wake of the Declaration of Independence, many loyalist Doulantese members and Rodian elites held a prevailing belief that the newly established Unitary Republic of Doulant would struggle to survive beyond a week. In response to this belief, several organizations emerged, including the Discordian Republican Army (DRA) and later the Discordian United Front (DUF), both led by Smile Not. The Discordian Freedom Alliance (DFA), led by James Corden. The Osmanian Liberation Army (OLA), whose leader is lost to time. Loyalist Doulant, led by Resprune. and Unitary Doulant, led by Aurelius Marcellus.

Despite the lack of an official declaration of war, the DFA and DRA both took proactive measures to engage in foreign affairs within the Republic of Discord. The organization was motivated by the belief that Aurelius, in his role as President of the Republic of Discord, was employing tyrannical tactics to suppress the voice of the populace. This perception fueled the DRA’s actions and underscored the tensions between the factions as they navigated the complexities of Doulant’s newfound independence.

Resprune’s international crimes

On August 17, 2022, Resprune took a controversial and aggressive action by nuking the Organisation of Discord Nations (ODN), which was led by ImItsyBee210. This organization functioned similarly to the United Nations and aimed to promote peace and cooperation among its member nations, including significant entities such as Leon’s USSR, the PRPC, and the PRC. Each of these nations had over 1,000 members and had recognized Doulant’s independence from the Republic of Discord.

Resprune’s attack on the ODN was viewed as a breach of interserver peace, leading to widespread condemnation and labeling him as an international criminal. The act was considered particularly egregious because the ODN was a peaceful organization focused on diplomacy and did not engage in military actions. Consequently, Resprune’s actions were seen as violations of the rules of war, including devastation not justified by military necessity, attack on an unarmed server, ignorance of the ODN’s mission for peace and an attack without a declaration of war, further escalating tensions. This incident incited the DUF to nuke the OLA server following their continued support of Resprune after the ODN nuke. A second nuke was perpetrated on the OLA server 13 hours after the first one as the server began to rebuild, causing the last few OLA members to leave the Republic of Discord. It's not clear to this day who was responsible, with the DUF ultimately internally blaming an obscure OLA member named Sequoia. underscoring the fragile state of relations in the wake of Doulant’s declaration of independence. This moment is considered the flashpoint for the later separation of the Tsardom of Doulant from the Republic of Doulant and marked the beginning of a dislike between the DUF and Resprune.

Mass protests against the RoD ownership

President Aurelius Marcellus faced a significant setback when he was unlawfully banned by the ownership of the Republic of Discord, particularly by Umiya, without any trial. Umiya did not deny this action, even confirming it when questioned, which raised concerns about the legitimacy of the decision.

On the same day, mass protests erupted in the capital of the Republic of Discord, organized by ImItsyBee210. The protesters rallied around several key demands, including the unbanning of Aurelius, the continuation of his trial, the release of Aurelius from his unlawful arrest, and the removal of Resprune and Umiya from their ownership positions. ImItsyBee210 actively encouraged participants to gather in the capital, framing their cause as a fight for freedom and highlighting the situation as a serious violation of rights. He characterized the actions of the ownership as emblematic of why Liberalism is viewed unfavorably by some, calling for a reevaluation of the existing political structures and ideologies in place. Following the protests in the capital, a significant development occurred when a letter was sent to the government of the Unitary Republic of Doulant. This letter conveyed a message of recognition, indicating that after a series of security conferences and discussions, the Government of the Soviet Union decided to extend full recognition to the Unitary Republic of Doulant. The letter was signed by Alexey Alexeev Razor Bragov, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Union of Soviet Sovereign Republics, and Alexander Konstantinovich, the President of the Union of Soviet Sovereign Republics.

Remarkably, just one hour after the protests concluded, both ImItsyBee210 and Aurelius were released from their unlawful detentions. The circuit court of the Republic of Discord ruled that both arrests were illegal, acknowledging that they had been held without proper legal process and for an excessive duration. This decision was a significant victory for the protestors and the movement advocating for the recognition and independence of the Unitary Republic of Doulant.

Road to the Doulantese Civil War

Tensions among the various factions in the independence movement and the loyalists escalated significantly following another hacking of Resprune’s account. He then confessed to orchestrating the first hack in collaboration with the Republic of Discord ownership, aiming to regain control of Doulant. This revelation led to arrest warrants being issued for prominent figures in the independence movement, namely Smile Not and Mcl5, fostering further distrust and division that lingered throughout Aurelius Marcellus’ presidency.

On September 1st, President Marcellus officially welcomed the President of the French Federal Republic (FRF) into Doulant for a significant diplomatic meeting. This engagement laid the groundwork for a closer relationship between the two nations. The following day, they signed the “Traité RD-FRF,” a mutual recognition treaty between the French Federal Republic and Doulant, formalizing their alliance. Shortly afterward, on September 3rd, Doulant extended diplomatic recognition to the Sublime State of Osmania, leading to a friendship that would prove enduring and beneficial for both nations.

In an effort to boost economic growth within Doulant’s relatively small community, Marcellus took the initiative on September 8th to distribute 1,000 Doulantese Dollars, to all citizens. This move was intended to stimulate economic activity and enhance the financial well-being of the populace. Following these economic measures, Doulant formalized its colonial holdings by establishing the Kingdom of Togo. Formerly known simply as the Doulantese Colony of Togo, its status as a kingdom was confirmed by law on October 4th, with formal endorsement from the commission.

When John Hersey took office after Aurelius in the Republic of Discord, the DRA and DUF both disbanded, choosing to peacefully reintegrate into the republic. However, the subsequent midterm elections were marred by suspicious circumstances that prompted a DIA investigation, resulting in the detention of eleven Unitary Doulantese nationals. This situation culminated in a contentious settlement negotiated by then Director Smile Not, which became a flashpoint in the weeks that followed, particularly as ImItsyBee210 attempted to leverage it to evade charges stemming from the settlement.

During the latter part of Hersey’s presidency and into Broski_Biden’s tenure, Smile Not resigned from the DIA (now the RIA) and took charge of the Loyalist Doulant server, uniting it with and welcoming the remnants of the DFA into it's ranks. His goal was to restore peace in preparation for a planned exit from the conflict. Ultimately, the Loyalist Doulant server was briefly recognized as a territory of the Republic of Discord, marking a temporary resolution to the ongoing tensions.

On October 5th, 2022, a member named Wendhou initiated a mass ping spam attack on the Loyalist Doulant, which had been rebranded as the Tsardom of Doulant. As a result of his actions, Wendhou was arrested but subsequently left the server. Concerned about the incident and the implications for his server’s sovereignty, Smile Not visited the Unitary Doulantese server to request Wendhou’s arrest for violating both the Terms of Service and the sovereignty of the Tsardom of Doulant.

Initially, the Unitary Doulantese complied with Smile Not’s request, leading to Wendhou’s arrest. However, he was later released without charges by ImItsyBee for reasons that remain unclear. This decision infuriated Smile Not, who issued a 10-hour ultimatum to the Unitary Doulantese government to rearrest and charge Wendhou. When this request went unheeded, tensions escalated further.

The Doulantese Civil War

On October 6th, 2022, the Tsardom of Doulant officially declared its independence from the Republic of Discord following its refusal to aid in a war against the Unitary Republic of Doulant and simultaneously declared war on Unitary Doulant. Following the declaration of war, the Tsardom of Doulant escalated the conflict by issuing an ultimatum to the Unitary Republic of Doulant. The Tsardom demanded that Unitary Doulant disarm, surrender Wendhou to Imperial Forces, and officially stand down. This demand significantly heightened tensions between the two factions, as it was perceived as an aggressive move.

In response to the growing hostilities, the Tsardom of Doulant severed all diplomatic communication with Unitary Doulant. Subsequently, all members of the Unitary Doulantese faction within the Tsardom were apprehended and executed, further intensifying the conflict. This ruthless crackdown effectively eliminated any remaining Unitary Doulantese presence in the Tsardom and marked a turning point in the war, as both sides prepared for potential future confrontations, despite neither officially launching attacks at that moment. The brutal measures taken by the Tsardom highlighted the lengths to which it was willing to go to assert its authority and suppress dissent.

After the roundups and executions, the Tsardom of Doulant faced a severe crisis when it lost much of its high military command. Many senior cabinet members were banned by the Tsar, motivated by personal vendettas, which crippled the Tsardom’s ability to launch effective military operations. In light of this turmoil, the Tsar’s Minister of Defense and Security, Bmerica, took drastic measures by nuking the Tsardom of Doulant. This act effectively annihilated the government in December 2022.

Initially, the attack was blamed on the Unitary Doulantese, creating a narrative that painted them as the aggressors. However, it soon became evident that Bmerica was the actual culprit behind the strike. In response to the chaos he had caused, Bmerica was officially exiled from the Tsardom just before the government finally collapsed.

As the Tsardom disintegrated, many upper government officials sought refuge in other mock governments, particularly the Republic of Calluris. Among those who fled were former Tsar Smile Not, Home Secretary Nexten, and High General Boltan. They sought to escape the fallout from Bmerica’s actions and the resulting chaos, attempting to establish a new identity and purpose in a different political landscape.

‘23 Anti-Itsy Movement

On January 1, 2023, ImItsyBee210 narrowly won the Doulantese presidential elections, marking the first time Marcellus had been defeated without being forcibly removed from office, as had happened during the Second Republic. This outcome, however, sparked widespread unrest, leading to the 2023 Esemihburg protests, a series of anti-reformist demonstrations primarily concentrated in Esemihburg from January 1 to January 3, 2023.

The protests, known variously as the ‘23 Anti-Itsy Movement, the January Esemihburg Incident, or the Anti-Itsy Uprising, were spearheaded by hardline opponents to Itsy’s proposed reforms. Supporters of Marcellus, especially those from the Communist Party of Doulant (CPD), challenged the election results, calling for Itsy’s resignation and advocating for Marcellus’s reinstatement. Amid a national economic downturn and considerable social shifts, these protests reflected broader anxieties within the populace about the country’s direction under new leadership.

As the demonstrations grew, reaching a peak with around fifty participants rioting in the capital, the newly inaugurated government faced mounting pressure. Internal rifts within the administration became apparent, as leaders debated responses ranging from diplomacy to military intervention. Eventually, Itsy’s administration chose a more forceful route, deploying military forces to occupy Esemihburg and subdue the protests, which escalated into direct confrontations between troops and demonstrators. Around ten protestors were arrested, with many others subjected to temporary detentions and silencing measures.

Loyal to President ImItsyBee210 during this turbulent period was Hypnotika, who played a key role in suppressing dissent by actively working to silence the protests. Meanwhile, staunch allies of Marcellus, including the revolutionary figures Dr.Schwammkopf69 and LysanderFelix, emerged as prominent leaders of the anti-Itsy faction. These individuals, celebrated as “revolutionary heroes” in Doulant, rallied demonstrators and symbolized the resistance against the new administration’s reforms. Their opposition efforts became a rallying point for those challenging the legitimacy of Itsy’s presidency, intensifying the clash between both factions and further polarizing Doulant’s political landscape.

On January 1st, 2023, shortly after taking office, President ImItsyBee210 issued his first directive, granting a pardon to SunGlisten. Ten minutes later, he made a sweeping decision to restructure the judiciary, stating that “considering none of the current state judges were approved by the Commission, they are all dismissed.” This act marked an early assertion of his authority. Additionally, Itsy dismissed all members of the Council of Ministers, with the exception of Hypnotika, who retained his position as Minister of Defense. Moments later, Marcellus was unexpectedly appointed as Chancellor, bridging a gap between the two prominent figures.

On January 3rd, Itsy issued another controversial pardon, this time for Jiki Scott, who had been previously banned for ToS violations. The decision provoked widespread backlash and heightened divisions within the administration. A week later, on January 11th, Itsy exercised his veto power to block the Commission’s motion to ban anime, arguing that such a ban would infringe upon the right to free expression. In a more lighthearted move on January 21st, he announced the establishment of “Onion Town,” a new district within Esemihburg, stating, “As President, noticing Onion Chat is gone, I have created Onion Town, the newest location in Esemihburg.”

Visit of President Joestar of Calluris

On February 5th, 2023, President Marcellus welcomed President Joseph Joestar of the Republic of Calluris into his office for an important diplomatic meeting. He began the conversation with a warm greeting, stating, “Thank you for visiting Doulant. Calluris is important to us,” before offering Joestar a coffee, which the Callurian president gladly accepted.

As their discussion progressed, Joestar expressed his desire for a robust partnership, stating, “Well, I would like to have military, economic, and security cooperation between our great nations since we both share similar values of freedom.” Marcellus, recognizing the potential for collaboration, readily agreed and proposed that they sign a treaty to formalize their alliance. He suggested a non-aggression pact, an alliance treaty, and possibly trading agreements to strengthen their ties. Joestar concurred with the idea, signaling a commitment to fostering a collaborative relationship between Doulant and Calluris.

Occupation of the Republic of Discord

On February 6th, 2023, the military high command of Doulant announced in RoD that the Republic of Discord had officially surrendered at 21:44 CET. This marked a significant turning point in their conflict, as Doulantese troops were set to occupy the Republic of Discord, leading to a complete restructuring of its governance and operations.

The announcement emphasized that this surrender was made with the approval of the existing ownership of the Republic of Discord, indicating a cooperative transition rather than a purely adversarial one. The message proclaimed that the conflict had reached its conclusion, with Doulant emerging victorious. This event effectively ended the War of Independence for Doulant, solidifying its sovereignty and marking a new chapter in the relationship between Doulant and the Republic of Discord.

On February 6th, 2023, President Marcellus signed the Proclamation of the Protectorate of Discord, marking a significant transition in the governance of the Republic of Discord. This proclamation established that the occupation of the Republic of Discord would be led by a “protector,” who would be appointed by the President of the Unitary Republic of Doulant. This arrangement emphasized Doulant’s centralized authority, ensuring that the protector operated as an extension of the President’s power and prioritized Doulant’s interests in managing the Republic of Discord.

One key aspect of the proclamation was the stipulation that the protector would not interfere in the political affairs of the Republic of Discord’s federal government. This provision allowed for a degree of autonomy within the existing political framework, suggesting that while Doulant was taking control, it did not intend to completely dismantle the Republic’s governance. By maintaining this level of separation, Doulant aimed to mitigate potential backlash and foster cooperation among the citizens of the Republic of Discord. Furthermore, the proclamation was set to take immediate effect upon issuance by the President, demonstrating a sense of urgency and determination to stabilize the situation after the conflict.

On February 15th, 2023, President Marcellus signed the Doulantese-Callurian Alliance treaty, formalizing the relationship between the Unitary Republic of Doulant and the Republic of Calluris.

The treaty consists of several key articles. Article 1 establishes that both nations will officially consider themselves allies, setting the framework for their relationship. Article 2 clarifies that while neither nation is obligated to defend the other, they retain the right to request both civil and military support when necessary. In Article 3, the treaty emphasizes the principle of non-aggression, stating that neither nation may attack the other, and any such aggression would constitute a violation of the treaty. Article 4 mandates the establishment of embassies in both nations, ensuring a diplomatic presence and appointing delegates to facilitate communication and cooperation. Finally, Article 5 stipulates that the treaty will take effect upon the signatures of both the President of Doulant and the President of Calluris.

On February 17th, 2023, President Marcellus signed the Treaty of Josephinia, which established the terms of relations between the Unitary Republic of Doulant and the Republic of Discord following the conclusion of their conflict. The treaty consisted of multiple parts detailing territorial boundaries, political clauses, military restrictions, and enforcement mechanisms.

In Part I, the treaty defined the borders between the two nations, specifying that the frontier would follow the southern boundary of the United States as delineated by the U.S. Census Bureau, with certain exceptions including Maryland, Delaware, and the District of Columbia. Part II outlined the political clauses, wherein the Republic of Discord formally recognized the full sovereignty of the Unitary Republic of Doulant and renounced all claims over specific territories. This included ceding rights to Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Alaska, and Hawaii to Doulant. The Republic of Discord was also required to hand over all relevant documents related to the independence of Doulant and the conflicts between the two nations. A significant financial aspect was included, mandating the Republic of Discord to pay 66 billion Discordian dollars to both France (Resprune's) and Doulant, which had to be earned rather than simply transferred.

Section 2 reiterated that the Republic of Discord was prohibited from constructing fortifications outside its borders, with any violations deemed hostile acts against Doulant. Part III addressed military provisions, stating that the Republic of Discord could establish a ministry of defense but was forbidden from maintaining any military forces or fortifications. Finally, Part IV established the enforcement mechanisms of the treaty. It stipulated that if the Republic of Discord failed to meet its obligations, Doulant reserved the right to take military action or other coercive measures deemed appropriate. The treaty would come into effect immediately upon the President of Doulant’s signature.

On March 27th, 2023, President Marcellus made an announcement regarding the strengthening of diplomatic ties with the Republic of Calluris. He indicated that the two nations would be working towards a new treaty, aimed at enhancing their relationship beyond the existing agreement. Shortly after, Marcellus welcomed the head of state from Arabia to his office, expressing a desire to build a robust partnership between their countries and indicating plans for a future treaty of alliance and friendship.

On April 7th, 2023, President Marcellus issued a critical address to the citizens of Doulant regarding a pressing financial issue. He stated that the Republic of Discord had failed to pay the stipulated $66 billion Discordian Dollars to both Doulant and France (Resprune's) as outlined in the Treaty of Josephinia. Marcellus emphasized that this noncompliance was unacceptable and that Doulant could not passively observe the Republic of Discord’s disregard for the treaty terms.

He referenced Article 12 of the Treaty of Josephinia, which allows for the use of military force to enforce compliance, asserting that it was time to take decisive action to protect the nation’s interests and uphold their agreements. Marcellus called on the citizens to support the government’s decision to potentially engage in military action if the Republic of Discord did not fulfill its financial obligations. He framed this as a necessary step to ensure that Doulant and its allies, particularly France (Resprune's), would not be left vulnerable to further disregard from the Republic of Discord.

New treaties and progressive laws

On April 8th, 2023, President Marcellus issued Executive Order №3, announcing an increase in the minimum wage to 500 Doulantese dollars. In his address, Marcellus emphasized that this decision was a significant move towards creating a more equitable society, ensuring that all workers receive fair compensation for their labor. He expressed pride in standing alongside the workforce and reiterated his commitment to respecting and dignifying all workers.

The following day, on April 9th, Marcellus released Executive Order №4, aimed at combating hate speech against religions within Doulant. He acknowledged a troubling rise in discriminatory speech and reaffirmed the nation’s core values of respect and tolerance. The order explicitly banned hate speech targeting religions, stating that while critical discourse about religion is encouraged, derogatory language or slurs against any faith, prophet, or deity would be classified as a crime, punishable by one day of imprisonment.

Marcellus clarified that this order was not intended to infringe upon freedom of speech but was designed to foster an environment of respect for diverse beliefs. He urged citizens to report any instances of hate speech and called for collective efforts to promote a more inclusive and harmonious society.

Following the executive order, Marcellus signed multiple treaties of friendship and alliance, first with the Imperium Discordiae, then with the 1st Greek Empire, and shortly after, a third alliance with the Empire of Xamania. These agreements aimed to strengthen diplomatic and military ties among the nations. On the same day, Marcellus also enacted the Doulantese Pension Act of 2023.

The following day, April 10th, Marcellus addressed the nation with a grave announcement regarding an attack on Xamania by terrorists, emphasizing the need for solidarity and decisive action against such threats. In his speech, he articulated a deep sense of responsibility towards their ally and the broader global community, framing the incident as an assault on fundamental values such as peace, freedom, and justice. He condemned the perpetrators and vowed to hold them accountable, asserting that the Doulantese National Army would be deployed to combat this terrorist threat.

Marcellus underscored the challenges that lay ahead but called for unity among the Doulantese people in the face of adversity. He encouraged citizens to remain steadfast in their commitment to justice and peace, asserting that fear and division would not be tolerated. The speech concluded with a rallying cry for collective action to defeat the forces of terror and reaffirmed his faith in eventual victory, encapsulating the spirit of resilience and determination that he sought to inspire within the nation.

On April 17th, 2023, President Marcellus issued Executive Order №5, mandating that all employees in the nation would receive overtime pay for hours worked beyond their standard schedules. The order specified that the overtime compensation would amount to one and a half times the employee’s regular hourly wage. To ensure compliance, all employers were required to adhere to this order, with the Ministry of Work and Social Affairs designated to provide guidance and assistance to facilitate understanding and implementation.

A few days later, on April 23rd, Marcellus announced Executive Order №6, outlining several significant updates for the nation. He emphasized a renewed commitment to enforcing the Discord Terms of Service more rigorously, mandating that all users within Doulant’s jurisdiction comply with the ToS and Community Guidelines, with disciplinary actions outlined for violations.

In this order, Marcellus also introduced new server rules inspired by the teachings of the Quran and the Bible, aiming to foster an environment of respect, kindness, and inclusivity within the community.

Additionally, the order included a strict prohibition on all forms of pornographic content on the server, including borderline pornographic memes. Marcellus justified this decision by asserting the need to uphold a family-friendly atmosphere and promote the core values of the Doulantese community. He acknowledged that changes can be challenging but expressed his belief that these updates would contribute to creating a better, more cohesive community.

On April 24th, 2023, President Marcellus delivered Executive Order №7, addressing the increasing prevalence of pornographic and NSFW material in Doulant. He expressed concern about the accessibility of such content, particularly its impact on the youth. In response, Marcellus announced an immediate ban on all forms of pornographic and NSFW material, including memes and videos that reference or depict such content. He acknowledged the potential pushback from segments of the population but emphasized the necessity of prioritizing the well-being of families and communities over individual freedoms. He called on citizens to support this initiative to foster a healthier digital environment.

Later that same day, Marcellus issued Executive Order №8, focusing on the rising issues associated with the Thug Shaker culture in Doulant. While initially harmless, the cultural phenomenon had evolved to include inappropriate NSFW content. In his address, Marcellus clarified that the practice of Thug Shakerism would now be limited strictly to the Thug Shaker cat, disallowing any NSFW content related to it. He reiterated the importance of upholding Doulantese values, which are rooted in faith and cultural heritage, and urged citizens to unite against any NSFW associations with Thug Shakerism. Marcellus concluded by calling on all Doulantese to work together to protect the moral fabric of society and maintain their foundational values.

Second Doulantese-Discordian conflict

On April 26th, 2023, President Marcellus addressed the citizens of Doulant with serious news regarding the deteriorating relationship with the Republic of Discord. He emphasized that the Republic of Discord had failed to pay the war reparations owed to both Doulant and France (Resprune's), which he deemed unacceptable and a violation of the Treaty of Josephinia. Despite diplomatic efforts to resolve the situation peacefully, Discord’s refusal to meet its obligations left Doulant with no choice but to issue an ultimatum. Marcellus stated that if the Republic of Discord did not begin payment of the owed reparations, Doulant would resort to military action.

On May 1st, 2023, Marcellus announced further developments regarding the Republic of Discord’s actions. He informed the citizens that Discord had renounced the Treaty of Josephinia and issued a demand for Doulant to withdraw its military presence from their territory. Marcellus rejected this demand outright, citing the necessity of Doulantese troops in maintaining peace and protecting national interests. He reassured citizens that while Doulant was committed to its treaty obligations, it would not tolerate threats to its security and would take necessary measures to defend the nation.

Later that day, Marcellus provided a list of servers supporting Doulant in the ongoing conflict with the Republic of Discord. He noted that these entities would offer military support to Doulant in its efforts, highlighting a coalition of various groups including GXR Capital, the American Empire/UISA, and several others.

Great Depression of 2023

The period from May to August marked a significant decline for Doulant, characterized by inactivity and only a handful of messages in the capital. Despite this challenging phase, the summer brought about a revival of activity within the server.

On August 2nd, 2023, President Marcellus addressed the citizens with an important announcement regarding Doulant’s recent membership in the League of Islamic and Non-Islamic Nations (L.O.I.N). In his speech, he emphasized the significance of this alliance, highlighting that it united Doulant with countries like Red Pakistan and Leons USSR. The President articulated that joining L.O.I.N reflects Doulant’s commitment to building relationships with nations, irrespective of their religious or cultural differences, reinforcing the idea that diversity is a source of strength.

Marcellus underscored the importance of cooperation, understanding, and the shared values of justice, equality, and freedom that Doulant espouses. He expressed a strong belief in dialogue and peaceful conflict resolution, aiming to create an inclusive society that honors its diversity. He also acknowledged the responsibilities that come with being part of the L.O.I.N., urging member nations to promote cooperation, respect, and tolerance. The President committed himself to working tirelessly to realize the collective vision of the alliance and encouraged fellow members to do the same.

Later that same day, a vote was held to determine whether Doulant should join the Union of Soviet Republics (USR). However, the voting outcome was overwhelmingly negative, reflecting a strong sentiment against such a union. Tit was discovered that officials from the USR had attempted to interfere in the electoral process. They were arrested for trying to rig the elections by flooding the server with their operatives to manipulate the vote in favor of the Union.

Following this debacle, just three hours after the vote, it was formally announced that Doulant would not be pursuing membership in the USR. Despite the failed vote, the atmosphere remained diplomatic. Shortly thereafter, Doulant signed a treaty of mutual friendship with the Soviet Union (Comrade's), largely facilitated by the long-standing relationship between President Marcellus and the General Secretary of the Soviet Union (Comrade's), who is an old friend of Marcellus.

On August 5th, 2023, President Marcellus made important announcements to strengthen the nation’s values and alliances. He signed Executive Order Nr. 9, which banned the political organization known as the Totenkopfpartei and the ideology of National Socialism. This order declared that any activities, connections, or promotion of the Totenkopfpartei would be illegal, with serious legal consequences for those involved. It also stated that supporting National Socialism would be against the law, ensuring that actions that threaten Doulant’s democratic principles would not be tolerated.

In addition to this executive order, President Marcellus announced the founding of the Doulantese Commonwealth. This new initiative aimed to enhance Doulant’s political relationships. Red Pakistan was recognized as the first non-colony member and was declared an autonomous kingdom within the Commonwealth.

On August 6th, 2023, President Marcellus addressed the nation regarding a serious threat to its sovereignty. He announced that Poopistan had declared war on the Doulantese colony of Togo. In response to this aggression, President Marcellus made the decision to implement conscription, urging all able-bodied men to join the military effort to defend their territory. He acknowledged the weight of this decision and expressed empathy for the concerns it might raise. However, he emphasized the importance of unity in facing this challenge, reminding citizens that their collective effort was essential for the preservation of their nation and values.

On the same day, President Marcellus granted a full pardon to Smile Not, who had faced serious charges, including high treason and terrorism. This decision was made with the belief that Smile Not had demonstrated a commitment to positively contributing to Doulant and that extending this pardon would promote national unity and rehabilitation. Smile Not returned to Doulant that same day.

On October 13th, 2023, amid the ongoing challenges of the Great Depression and a continuing period of low to moderate activity in Doulant, President Marcellus announced the implementation of the nation’s first comprehensive criminal law. This historic legislation marked a significant step forward in establishing a formal legal framework for the country, addressing various criminal offenses and outlining the corresponding penalties.

On October 14th, 2023, President Marcellus announced the banning of The International Doulan, a controversial book written by Jiki Scott, leader of the Neo-Amullian Party in the Republic of Discord. The book presented a highly critical and divisive account of Doulant’s history and identity, alleging that Doulant’s leaders, particularly Marcellus, were responsible for severe oppression and even “genocide” against the Amullian people.

Scott’s narrative painted the Doulantese state as systematically suppressing Amullians, describing the forced assimilation of Amullians into Doulantese culture, claims of authoritarian rule, and accounts of political repression. According to the book, Marcellus allegedly planned and went through with a campaign of cultural erasure and persecution, targeting those who clung to the Amullian identity, ultimately resulting in what Scott described as a “genocide” of Amullian identity and heritage. The text also argued that the Amullians, represented as active and progressive community members, had contributed to the growth and revival of the Republic of Discord, only to be met with opposition and conflict from the Doulantese. This friction, Scott asserted, undermined the Republic and split the community, leading to the Doulantese War of Independence, which he claimed reversed progress made by the Amullians. In its most incendiary passage, The International Doulan proposed a “final solution” to the so-called “Doulan question,” advocating for harsh retribution against Doulantese, including persecution, deportations, and even executions, to secure the survival of the Amullian identity.

The government of Doulant responded to the book’s publication by banning it immediately. The administration cited the book’s inflammatory language and the baseless accusation of genocide, which it viewed as a dangerous incitement that could threaten national unity and stability. The ban was justified on the grounds that the work promoted hate speech and posed a security risk due to its explicit calls for violence against the Doulantese people.

On October 16th, 2023, President Aurelius Marcellus issued Executive Order № 10 in Doulant, focusing on enhancing tax law enforcement to promote fairness and ensure compliance. The directive emphasized that tax evasion and fraud were illegal and punishable offenses. All citizens, businesses, and organizations within Doulant were mandated to observe tax regulations, with authorities empowered to investigate and prosecute violations under the existing criminal code. The executive order stipulated that any individuals or entities found guilty of tax evasion or fraud would face penalties that could include imprisonment for up to three months or a fine.

On October 29th, Congress passed a wartime bill, signed by President Aurelius Marcellus, formally declaring a state of war between Doulant and Resprune. This legislation, officially titled An Act Declaring That a State of War Exists Between the Unitary Republic of Doulant and Resprune and Making Provisions to Prosecute the Same, asserted that Resprune had launched an unprovoked attack on Doulant on October 12–13, 2022. The act authorized the President to deploy all of Doulant's military resources and government capabilities toward prosecuting the war against Resprune. It marked a significant escalation in relations, empowering Doulant to take full military action in response to the previous year's aggression.

Late Great Depression in Early 2024

By early 2024, the political environment in Doulant had quieted significantly, marked by minimal activity and challenges in maintaining a functioning government. The server's governance struggled to regain momentum, prompting Blyatman, a long-time member and administrator, to propose officially converting Doulant into a chat server due to its de facto status as such.

On January 18th, 2024, as news broke of the official dissolution of the Republic of Discord, President Aurelius Marcellus issued a statement from Doulant expressing a nuanced farewell. Acknowledging the complex and often contentious relationship between Doulant and the Republic, he offered condolences to the now-defunct community, reflecting on it as the birthplace of Doulant and a formative space for many of its citizens. He remarked, "RoD is still the place of our foundry; the place where many of us made good memories. And yes, while the last two years were less than pleasant, I’m still grateful for the memories and the great time I had since I joined RoD up till the independence war." In a final, thoughtful sentiment, Marcellus added, "Old man, it’s time to rest. I’m glad you’ve finally laid down and went to sleep, but you’ll be remembered in our history as well," signaling respect for the Republic’s legacy despite the adversarial history. Meanwhile, Mika Marcellus added, “Nobody in the Republic of Discord has ever been laid.”

On February 7th, 2024, President Aurelius Marcellus announced a significant overhaul of tax policy in an effort to address widespread tax evasion and streamline financial regulations. This included automatic tax collection managed by the Ministry of Finance, eliminating the need for individuals to file taxes manually. The announcement also abolished commercial, gambling, and income taxes, leaving only basic and luxury taxes in place. In addition, Marcellus introduced strict penalties for tax evasion, mandating one-week jail terms for those found using methods to avoid taxes. Only the top 20 wealthiest individuals in the server were subjected to taxation under the new policy. The announcement on February 7th regarding the new tax policies stirred reactions throughout Doulant, including from Mika Marcellus, wife of President Aurelius Marcellus. In a comment she stated: "I purposefully evade my taxes because Esemih spanks me whenever I do."

On February 23rd, 2024, President Aurelius Marcellus issued Executive Order № 12, which marked a significant shift in the cultural regulations of Doulant. This order prohibited public discussions about sex and sexual actions. Violations of this directive were declared punishable by one day of imprisonment per offense. In line with the directive, Marcellus also called on the Ministry of Health to spearhead initiatives promoting "anti-horny" health programs, highlighting a push for policies that aligned with the new standards of public conduct.

Political system

The Unitary Republic of Doulant is a unitary, democratic republic, where all sovereign power is vested in the people, who exercise this power through free and fair elections. The constitution serves as the supreme law of the land, taking precedence over all other forms of legislation, treaties, and directives. It guarantees the integrity of the state’s democratic foundations by ensuring that no law can contravene its provisions.

State Sovereignty

Doulant is a fully independent and sovereign state and is administratively divided into seven counties. The state owns all natural and manufactured resources within its territory, including land, mineral resources, and water. These resources are regulated and managed by the government, although private individuals and organizations can apply for licenses to utilize them under government supervision. The government retains the authority to revoke these licenses to ensure sustainable and equitable resource distribution.

Legislative Power

The government is divided into three branches: the legislature, the executive, and the judiciary. Legislative power is vested in a unicameral Congress, which is the sole legislative authority in Doulant. Congress is composed of members elected by universal suffrage every second week, with each of the seven counties represented by two Congressmen. Congress has the authority to enact legislation, levy taxes, regulate commerce, manage foreign affairs, and oversee various other governmental functions. It also holds the power to impeach officials and override presidential vetoes. Congressional sessions are held publicly, except in cases where safety requires otherwise.

Executive Power

The executive branch is led by the President, who serves as the Head of State and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. The President is elected every fourth week and holds significant powers, including the ability to appoint and remove ministers, declare states of emergency, and issue directives. The Chancellor, also elected by the people, manages domestic affairs, overseeing social issues and internal governance. The Chancellor leads the Council of Ministers, which is composed of several ministries responsible for areas such as foreign affairs, defense, justice, and health. While the President holds overarching authority, the Chancellor’s role is crucial in maintaining the day-to-day functions of the state. Both the President and the Chancellor can be removed from office by a two-thirds vote of no confidence in Congress.

Judicial Power

The judiciary is headed by the Supreme Court, which holds the power of judicial review and oversees all legal matters arising under the Constitution and the laws of Doulant. The court is composed of a Chief Justice and several Associate Justices, all of whom are nominated by the Chancellor and approved by Congress. The Supreme Court also has original jurisdiction in cases involving public officials or the government, and it can hear appeals in other cases. Judges in Doulant hold office during good behavior and cannot simultaneously hold other governmental positions.

Political parties

Doulant operates under a multi-party system, with five officially registered parties. Out of approximately 520 members, around 160 hold party memberships.

Communist Party of Doulant

The Communist Party of Doulant (CPD) is the largest and most historically significant political organization in the nation. Founded on August 14, 2021, under the leadership of Chairman Aurelius Marcellus, the CPD has established itself as the dominant political force, maintaining continuous control over the government. Its ideology blends Doulant-nationalist Communism and Socialism, which it has upheld throughout its existence, making it a pivotal entity in shaping Doulant’s political and social landscape.

Doulant Nationalist Party

The Doulant Nationalist Party (DNP) aims to promote nationalism and patriotism within the Unitary Republic of Doulant. The party advocates for reforms to ensure that the government remains strong yet limited in its powers. It supports a neutral foreign policy, engaging in international affairs only when it directly benefits Doulant. The party’s core ideologies are nationalism, patriotism, neutrality, and governmental reform.

Touch Grass Alliance

The Touch Grass Alliance (TGA) is an unconventional political group that promotes a return to nature and advocates for people to spend less time on social media or in virtual government simulations. The party’s ideology, referred to as “Naturism” and “Touch-Grass-ism,” centers on encouraging individuals to engage more with the natural world.

Doulantese People’s Party

The Doulantese People’s Party (DPP) derives its name from its deep connection to the people of Doulant. The party emphasizes the role of the Doulantese populace in securing the nation’s independence and fostering its development over generations. The DPP is committed to upholding the values of democratism, populism, and republicanism, reflecting a steadfast allegiance to the Unitary Republic of Doulant and its citizens.

Doulantese Conservative Party

The Doulantese Conservative Party (DCP) seeks to challenge the dominance of the Communist Party in the interest of preserving democracy in Doulant. The party prioritizes economic improvement, advocating for freer market policies and business-friendly reforms. Additionally, the DCP focuses on creating support systems for Doulantese citizens, both in real life and within online spaces. Its guiding ideology is modern conservatism.

Doulantese Socialism Party

The Doulantese Socialism Party (DulSoc) was a powerful, paradoxical political organization in Doulant, led by BIG BROTHER. Embracing conflicting ideologies, socialism and anti-socialism, democracy and anti-democracy, monarchy and anti-monarchy, and more, DulSoc maintained influence through constant ideological shifts and populist appeal, like its claim of "always being at war with Resprune,". Although declared illegal on July 31, 2024, DulSoc experienced a brief revival in October 2024 but was quickly dismantled after the elections, as continuing a banned party constitutes a felony.

Economics

Economical system

Doulant has a mixed economic system characterized by a combination of individual freedoms and state regulation. The constitution guarantees citizens the right to choose their profession, receive fair compensation for their work, and prohibits forced labor. However, it also permits the government to implement certain regulations on occupations and professions through legislation. This structure indicates a balance between free market principles and governmental oversight, with the economy operating as a social market. While market dynamics of supply and demand prevail, the government regulates economic activities to ensure fairness and stability.

Ministry of Finance

The Ministry of Finance in Doulant is the central institution responsible for managing and overseeing all financial matters in the nation. This ministry, established during Doulant's early modern era, is one of the few government bodies to have functioned continuously since then. Its role is protected by the constitution. This constitutional safeguard has allowed the ministry to enact consistent financial policies and maintain economic stability across various administrations.

In its role as the financial backbone of the government, the Ministry of Finance regulates the nation’s tax system. It oversees tax collection to ensure fair and efficient revenue generation, which funds essential public services and government functions. Additionally, the ministry is responsible for managing the state reserve, which includes foreign currency reserves and other valuable assets. This reserve acts as a financial safety net, allowing the government to respond to economic uncertainties, address inflationary pressures, and maintain liquidity in times of crisis.

With the recent adoption of Doulant’s new currency system, known as the Daphne and Astoria or colloquially as the "Doulantese Greengrass," the ministry's role has expanded to include currency control and monetary policy. In collaboration with the Central Bank of Doulant, it monitors money supply, inflation rates, and overall currency circulation, ensuring that the new currency is stable and its value well-regulated. The ministry also coordinates the printing and minting of this currency to balance supply and prevent currency shortages or surpluses.

Doulantese currency

As of April 4, 2024, the Doulantese Dollar was officially replaced by a new currency system comprising two units: the Daphne and the Astoria, denoted by the symbol Ð. In this decimal-based structure, one Daphne is equivalent to 100 Astoria, with both denominations widely accepted and integrated throughout the national economy. The transition to the Daphne-Astoria system was motivated by economic reforms intended to stabilize Doulant’s currency and improve its standing in international markets. The Doulantese Dollar had experienced a period of devaluation, prompting the Central Bank of Doulant to initiate the overhaul as part of a comprehensive fiscal plan. The transition included a gradual withdrawal of the Doulantese Dollar from circulation and its replacement with the new currency units.

The naming of the new Doulantese currency has an unusual and culturally significant backstory. The names were chosen by Aurelius Marcellus, who was inspired by fanfiction written by his daughter, Evie Marcellus, and other members of Doulant’s literary community. In Harry Potter, Daphne and Astoria Greengrass belong to the "Sacred Twenty-Eight," a collection of old, pure-blood wizarding families. Daphne Greengrass was a contemporary of Harry Potter at Hogwarts and a Slytherin, while her younger sister, Astoria, later married Draco Malfoy. As a result, the Doulantese currency is affectionately nicknamed the "Doulantese Greengrass."

Doulantese Society and Culture

Doulant’s culture is rooted in its origins as an offshoot of the Republic of Discord. This background has shaped Doulant into a society that is deeply community-oriented and infused with a less formal approach to governance and public life. This ethos extends into various forms of live-action role play (LARP), which are taken seriously yet approached with openness. LARP in Doulant is more than a pastime; it’s a communal practice that reflects the country’s identity.

Initially, much of Doulant’s approach was borrowed from the Republic of Discord, including a tolerance for “degeneracy”. The Republic of Discord’s administrators deliberately encouraged toxic behavior, including provocative themes like racism, sexism, and inappropriate humor, to create friction and activity within the community. Many of Doulant’s early members came from this environment and therefore carried over similar attitudes, making it an accepted part of Doulantese online culture for a considerable time.

The Republic of Discord’s founder, Romulus, ultimately disapproved of the developments in the Republic of Discord and publicly criticized the decline he saw in the community. In an open letter dated February 6th, 2020, Romulus expressed his disappointment with the Republic of Discord’s transformation, noting, “ROD has declined over this past month to a state of degradation.” He attributed this shift to a “mix between Rhenic’s toxicity and the new society brought on us by Porsche’s ‘GOK’ friends,” which, he argued, turned RoD “into some sort of satirist cult.” Romulus emphasized the community’s loss of direction, describing the degeneration as “inevitable” due to disruptive influences. He also shared his frustration at the lack of respect and appreciation for his efforts as founder, stating, “all I get is constant disrespect and no appreciation for my toil,” and ultimately announcing his intention to leave RoD.

Over time, however, Doulant underwent significant changes as its leadership and membership evolved. A firm stance against these previously tolerated behaviors came, marking a turning point in the nation’s cultural development. Doulant’s administrators launched a community-wide reform, purging individuals who violated community standards and reinforcing a zero-tolerance policy toward racism, sexism, and other forms of toxicity. This shift not only reshaped Doulant’s community atmosphere but also earned praise from international observers, including particularly strong support from the Xaezurlians, who commended the nation’s commitment to fostering a respectful, inclusive environment.

Central to Doulantese identity is a strong sense of patriotism. While Doulantese citizens may embrace a playful community spirit, they are intensely proud of their country and its symbols. Patriotism in Doulant is palpable, and the national flag holds special significance, symbolizing both unity and pride. The flag is celebrated in everything from public events to everyday displays in public spaces, acting as a unifying emblem that connects citizens across different backgrounds. This pride in the flag and other national symbols reflects the people’s love for Doulant as both a country and a community.

The Onion

The onion holds a unique place in Doulantese culture, arguably becoming one of the most influential symbols in the country’s recorded history. The phenomenon began in October 2022, when Doulant’s founder, Aurelius Marcellus, posted an image of the iOS onion emoji. This simple act quickly turned into a widespread cultural movement within Doulant. The onion symbol was enthusiastically embraced by the community, integrating into virtually every aspect of Doulantese life.

The community’s affection for the onion extended to the establishment of the “Onion Chat,” a dedicated space for onion-themed discussions and interactions.
